The German transmission system is divided into four regions known as control areas. Each Control area has a transmission system operator, or TSO, responsible for the safety and stability of the network: Amprion GmbH, TransnetBW GmbH, TenneT TSO GmbH and 50Hertz Transmission GmbH.
