The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is an organization that operates the electric grid and manages the deregulated market for 75% of the land area in Texas. It is responsible for ensuring a reliable electricity supply to more than 26 million Texas customers. ERCOT coordinates the flow of electric power to these customers and is tasked with maintaining system reliability and responding to grid emergencies. Unlike other parts of the United States, the Texas grid operated by ERCOT is not interconnected with the rest of the national grid, making it a standalone electricity network.
